Welcome to the Blog
A little context on why I'm starting this, and what you can expect.
I’ve been meaning to start a blog for a while.
Not because I think I have all the answers. Honestly, the opposite — I’m in the middle of figuring a lot of things out, and writing can help me think more clearly.
I’m Dexter. I build websites for local businesses here in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I’m working on a handful of my own digital products on the side. The day-to-day is a mix of IT work, code, design decisions, and my fitness tracker telling me to get more sleep.
What I’ll Write About
A few things I keep coming back to:
Building for local businesses. Most of my clients run a service — lawn care, barbershops, auto shops. They’re great at what they do and terrible at being found online. I want to write about what actually works for small businesses, without the generic advice that fills most marketing blogs.
Product development. I’m building Fort Wayne Businesses, a local business directory. I own the domain, so I figure might as well do something with it. I’ll share what goes wrong, what goes right, and the decisions behind them.
The Fort Wayne angle. I care about this city. I think there’s more opportunity here than most people realize, and I want to write about building something meaningful in a mid-sized Midwest city — not Silicon Valley, not a major metro.
Honest technical stuff. I’m not going to write “10 JavaScript tips you won’t believe” posts. But when I learn something genuinely useful — a pattern, a mistake, a tool — I’ll write it up.
Faith and Spirituallity I tend to go to church Sunday. I often digest a lot of good sermons but don’t do anything with what I’m thinking about. This will be a place to formalize some thoughts.
Why Now
Partly because I finally set up this blog (you’re reading it), and partly because I feel like I’m at an interesting inflection point. AI makes the whole process easier. I’m starting to build website. The software solutions are getting real. I want to document this chapter while I’m in it.
No promises on frequency. But I’m going to write when I have something worth saying.
Thanks for being here.
